Your Glory Days Await You

February 9, 2016

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

If you’ve read the book of Joshua, you’re aware it’s about how the Israelites conquered Canaan, the Promised Land. Through their stories of biblical blemishes, battles and miracles, you can see how Joshua is a leader, very obedient to God. He faces overwhelming odds with divine help.
Glory Days
Leading inspirational author, Max Lucado’s book, Glory Days: Living Your Promised Land Life Now, has written his account of living your own promised land based on the Old Testament book of Joshua where the promised land isn’t a physical place, but a spiritual reality.

Glory Days spells out the way to close the gap between the person we are and the person we want to be by expecting life’s challenges and knowing that God’s promise is victory for we are joint heirs with Christ! We already have God’s favor if we believe and trust in Him — victory is ours.

Lucado reminds us that the Promised Land property has been placed in our name just as God placed Joshua’s Promised Land in his name, we, too, are just like Joshua.

How did Joshua do it?

Lucado says it best when he says, “. . . it wasn’t enough for Joshua to possess the Scriptures; God wanted the Scriptures to possess Joshua.”
Want your own glory days?

What are you waiting for?  Let God’s word be your guide. Your glory days await you!

Gorgeous for Good – How much of a purist do you want to be?

September 11, 2015

Gorgeous for GoodI’m totally into physical tweaks now and then. Sometimes I fall for deceptive marketing practices for cosmetics and foods that promote anti-aging and well-being.

However, after reading a book by Sophie Uliano titled, Gorgeous for Good: A Simple 30-Day Program for Lasting Beauty – Inside and Out, I might reconsider my buying choices, but I had to ask myself, “How much of a purist do I want to be?”

Uliano shares a warehouse (and some) of knowledge on holistic nutrition and skin care along with:

  • How to read labels on ingredients from beauty products to foods
  • Sharing toxic versus non-toxic ingredients in many popular products
  • How to recognize natural versus synthetic
  • Fair trade and organizations that are certified for both natural and organic personal-care products.

This is a fabulous go-to reference book to carry with you any time you are shopping for the personal products you use every day and recipes for many of the homemade organic personal-care products and foods you can make on your own.

Label1Uliano has taught me many new things I never knew. Here are just a few of the things that piqued my interest and, not surprisingly, shocked me at how much I really don’t know about what I’m putting on my face and into my body.

–    Is it made in a lab or does it come from the ground?
–    What NSF/ANSI 305, NPA, NATRUE, COSMOS Organic and Natural Standards are all about
–    What compound disruptor mimics the hormone estrogen?
–    How many synthetic chemicals have been introduced to us since World War II?
–    What questionable ingredient is found in 80% of beauty products?

At the end of this powerhouse book, Uliano provides a 30-day program consisting of beauty, diet, fitness and “me time” tips along with amazing recipes to cook your way to true beauty.

Ask yourself, “What are you going to do; be a true purist or take a glimpse of pros, cons and myths of what you digest so you can reinvest in being Gorgeous for Good?

Soul Shifts – How’s your cosmic alarm clock?

September 11, 2015

“He who knows others is wise, but he who knows himself is enlightened. He who overcomes others is strong, but he who overcomes himself is mightier still.” ~ Lao-tzu

Soul ShiftsImagine with me, as Dr. Barbara De Angelis, author of a new book, Soul Shifts – Transformative Wisdom for Creating a Life of Authentic Awakening, Emotional Freedom, and Practical Spirituality, says, “… notice when something you’re reading stirs an emotion in you, or creates a sense of expansion, excitement, or even agitation …;” or “… recognize that the kinds of questions you’ve been contemplating have changed …;” or “… are you paying attention to the alarm going off …”

About that alarm — De Angelis asks, “Has your cosmic alarm clock been going off?” .

Ancient Hindu philosophy from the 9th century describes this cosmic alarm clock as being a profound soul moment called “thoughts of awakening.”

My cosmic alarm clock went off when I began this blog more than four years ago. The alarm was loud and my soul shifted to “thoughts of awakening,” as De Angelis spells out so gracefully and lovingly in her new book, Soul Shifts.

Now imagine this loud, annoying, gut-wrenching alarm going off and you are unable to turn it off until you hear, feel, know, understand and experience this soul moment during your challenges, illnesses, losses, love or many other situations that catapult you to admit your own cosmic alarm clock is going off.

I recognized this ongoing shift after reading this deeply, thought-provoking book about soul awakening as I kept internalizing, “… yes, yes, I see what’s been happening to me!”

I’ve recently gone through many of these profound soul shift moments through recent family deaths, spiritual challenges and a growing appreciation for silence.

I’ve returned day-by-day, moment-by-moment, page-by-page reading Soul Shift advice and doing the exercises De Angelis provides in this moving book that provides example after example of budding and awakening moments that you and I will recognize, but we haven’t given them any thought, attention or developed a disciplined routine.

De Angelis will awaken you to things like:
–    Blessings or burdens
–    Why being a spiritual collector is misguided
–    How to shift from the inside out
–    Stop the game of emotional “Whac-a-Mole”
–    Spiritual physics 101
–    Evoke the kind of vibration you want to send out
–    How to stop your vibrational wrestling matches

Soul Shifts is filled with insight, personal exercises, Bible verses, quotes, mantras and powerful soul created prayers that help you open to your cosmic alarm clock.

My rating of this book is off the charts. It’s definitely one to own. I love this book so much that I have a hardcover and an e-book.

Wayne Dyer has helped millions of people improve their lives by recognizing and acknowledging lessons in every moment, and he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Don’t let his current fame and fortune fool you. By reading his new book, I Can See Clearly Now, you will learn how many obstacles Dyer confronted to get to where he is today. Who knew? I didn’t!

Draw near to me – God speaks to us through His written word

August 27, 2015

“Hand it to God so He can use you. He will speak. Our responsibility is to listen,” says Shirley Smith author of Listening to the Voice of God.

Listening to the voice of GodSmith’s book is a quick-read sharing thought-provoking and stimulating tips teaching how to learn to listen to God’s word through reading God’s words.

Smith tells us that prayer is an integral part of any Bible study to ready our hearts to hear what God is saying. She also shares insight on:

–    A new appreciation for God’s word
–    How to allow His word to take effect in our heart
–    How God’s favor is a gift of grace
–    How trusting and waiting yields spiritual strength
–    How God speaks to us through his written word

Listening to the Voice of God
is filled with Bible stories that ring true in many situations we face today.

One of Smith’s listening tips on salvation taught her that, “… good moral choices and good deeds do not constitute salvation. Therefore, making the right choice does not change a person’s status from sinner to saint.”

Whether you agree with Smith’s vision or not, this small book is filled with the right amount of Bible verses and stories that help you consider new ways to listen to the voice of God.

Smith shared a Bible verse that is a good example of listening to the voice of God:

“This people draw nigh unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” (Matthew 15:8).

Draw near to Him and let Him speak to you through His written word.

The spiritual eye of the heart – Marry your own soul

July 31, 2015

“For love to last, it is best not to have too many expectations. It is better just to offer love.” ~ His Holiness the Karmapa

How to Love Yourself andHave you heard this before – “If you want to love another human being, you know you must start with yourself,” says Meggan Watterson and Lodro Rinzler, co-authors of a new book to be released September 15, 2015 titled How to Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People) – Spiritual Advice for Modern Relationships.

The authors want us to ask ourselves, “Where has my love not yet reached? Invite your hard-to-reach stories in like a dinner guest.”

We hear over and over again that meditation is the key to becoming familiar with ourselves. This same theme rings true in How to Love Yourself (and Sometimes Other People).

Watterson and Rinzler believe the amount of time we reserve for actually being by ourselves, especially through meditation (in the present moment) has become less and less because of too many distractions. Their mantra is “the true search for love happens within.”

There is a three-step process the duo refers to in this book of loving yourself based on Buddha’s ability to teach others to present themselves more authentically. The three steps are:

1. Look at yourself
2. Discover your basic goodness
3. Develop faith in that goodness

You will learn from Meggan and Lodro about a process called Disciplined Hope.

At the end of each chapter, the authors provide their interpretation and direction on what they’ve discovered works for loving themselves and others through situations like:

– How to love dating
– How to love being single
– How to fall in love without losing yourself
– How to commit to love
– The suffering of suffering
– Love without attaching strict conditions and expectations
– The boundless potential for love

Master Meditation - Step 1 to Self-Transformation

Master Meditation – Step 1 to Self-Transformation

How to Love Yourself is filled with exercises, meditation opportunities and a new way of looking at love. The book is also filled with many wisdom teachings from poets, mystics and the gospels.

Bottom line, the message I walked away with is this:

“Be still and know that happiness in lasting relationships is to be willing to never betray your own needs over other’s needs. First, marry your own soul — the spiritual eye of the heart and all else will fall into place.”
