Nataki Talibah School in Detroit, a school that fosters the development of whole, balanced, tolerant, critically thinking students, was founded in 1978. The school has a seven principle system that includes Introspection and SELF Centered philosophies. Introspection is defined as “being able to recognize and examine one’s own thoughts, feelings, and behavior”. SELF Centered means “taking responsibility for the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of oneself”. And guess what else they teach . . . meditation.
Part of their curriculum, called Wellness, includes Transcendental Meditation (TM). The technique is offered to students to promote deep rest which promotes alertness and attention to studies. Students meditate in the morning and ten minutes at the end of the day. This school is being used by the University of Michigan to study children and stress.
Just think – if a school can foster the effort to create and organize ideas and possibilities for the future for children by using Introspection and SELF Centered philosophies, along with meditation, what do you think it would do for an adult? Let’s find out . . . get meditating and I’d love to hear how it’s working for you.
